Nile River Cruises Show You the Root of Egypt’s Success

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Few people are unaware of the success of the ancient Egyptian civilisation. Information about this once great empire fills text books, children’s tomes, films and many other such things around the globe.

And by heading off on a Nile cruise, you can see firsthand the thing that contributed to the success of the nation. In large part, the achievements of the people who lived on this area of land in millennia gone by was down to one primary factor. This was that they had access to the Nile.

The river flooded predictably, providing patches of fertile and irrigated land that they used to cultivate surplus crops. This in turn served as a catalyst for social development and helped make Egyptian culture as structured and sophisticated as it became under the pharaohs.

Scribes, religious leaders and administrators all formed part of this new type of society and a military was established to help defend the people against foreign enemies.

None of this would have been possible if it hadn’t been for the large river running through the land.

So, setting off on an all inclusive holiday to Egypt can provide you with a real insight into what powered this ancient and fascinating society.

And of course as part of a Nile cruise, you can visit some of the architectural sights that remain as a monument to this ancient world.

For example, you can stop off at sights of interest such as the Temple at Luxor.

How Egypt Came to Europe

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

The European fascination with Egypt and all things Egyptian dates from the Napoleonic period. While Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign was by no means a success, the expedition did bring with it a handful of historians, linguists, poets, and draughtsmen (artists who filled the position of photographer before cameras came along). These people recorded the wonders they saw along the way.

Europe had always known that Egypt was home to an ancient civilisation. You need only read ancient Greek and Roman classics to find out that the cities of Egypt were some of the greatest in the world in those times, although we now know that the great pharaohs reigned much earlier and by the time of the Roman Empire, Egyptian civilisation was a shadow of its former glory. We knew it was there and it was old, but Europe had little conception of the majestic monuments and mysterious hieroglyphs that still waited under the hot Egyptian sun.

This was an era long before river Nile cruises were a possibility and travel was very limited. There were no Nile cruise ships and no hotels and resorts welcoming European tourists. What the Napoleonic era did have was books. At this time printing technology was advanced enough that the growing upper middle classes could begin to afford books. Ancient Egypt, so strange and different to anything Europe had to offer, very quickly became a popular topic. Europe’s love affair with Egypt began with the written word.

In the 21st Century we have all read books and seen television programs about ancient Egypt but we have the advantage over our forbears. We can visit the great sites on holidays to Egypt and River Nile cruises, while they could only read about them. On one of our Nile cruise ships you can experience what they could only dream of.

Nile cruises are popular among many holidaymakers. They provide a chance to experience a completely different world.

As well as all of the historical places of interest that can be seen on a holiday to Egypt, there are also the incredible coastal areas to visit.

And if you fancy trying out something a little more active on your trip, you should investigate the possibility of diving.

The country boasts some incredible locations for this pastime and you will take away memories to last you a lifetime if you plunge beneath the surface to explore the marine delights.

One thing to bear in mind if you intend to dive while on your Nile cruise holiday is any documentation you might have. For example, if you are a qualified diver and have no proof of a dive logged within the last six months, you will be required to do a refresher session.

Therefore, if you do have experience and the paperwork to prove it, you should take it with you as this will mean you can avoid such problems.

There are many sites to choose from if you want to take the chance to dive while you are off on Nile cruises. Indeed, you are spoilt for choice. Many of the most popular areas are based alongside the Red Sea.

Seeing the underwater world in this way is one of the most complete forms of escapism you can hope to achieve while on a vacation. It immediately transports you into a different environment and can help you relax and enjoy the moment.

Tips to Get By on Your Visit to Egypt

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

There is something almost magical about the promise of Egypt. There are very few accessible tourist holidays in the heart of Africa, and especially ones steeped in so much history and mystery. The experience of a holiday in Egypt is like nothing you will have experienced before or will again.

But once you’ve looked for Nile cruise deals and booked your holiday of a lifetime, there are a few things to be aware of before you go.

Tipping is expected in Egypt, so ensure to factor that into your budget. Expect to add around £3 per person per day in tips on your trip, but with the great Nile cruise deals available the cost of your holiday will still be extremely reasonable. There are also the street hawkers to be aware of. Whilst most of them mean well and will have a very good sense of humour, sometimes the constant pressure to buy can become a bit wearisome.

Luxury Nile cruises are the perfect way to relax in comfort whilst witnessing extraordinary views; however, you should ensure you wear appropriate sun protection factors as the heat can be quite extreme during certain months of the year.

The other precautions you may need for a luxury Nile cruise are mosquito spray and ensuring you have a supply of bottled water while you are out there. Once you have made these few small provisions, you are almost certain to have a holiday you will always remember.

Why a Cruise is the Best Type of Holiday

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Many people shy away from the idea of a cruise because they simply don’t know what to expect. They are often seen as a much more expensive option for a relaxing getaway that the package holidays that seem so cheap on the web.

However, the price can be deceiving. With a cruise, and Nile cruises in particular, you are getting a lot more for your money than just a simple flight and a bed. Most packages are all inclusive, or at the least full board, saving you huge amounts of money food and drink.

Then there is the fact that your bed is also your taxi – when you want to visit a new exotic location you don’t have to worry about renting a car or paying for a taxi. You are in a new place every day. And with almost all Nile Cruises the excursions are included too, so you won’t find yourself shelling out hundreds of pounds on trips for yourself and your family.

Money aside, the benefits of river Nile cruises are still plentiful. With a new location every day, and something always going on, you are sure to never get bored – which you must admit will occasionally happen on a normal package holiday – while you are much more likely to get to know other people on board than you would at a normal resort.

Finally, the relaxation of the travelling along the water is also a huge benefit of a river Nile cruise. As you sun yourself by the pool, you will be surrounded by tranquillity and ever changing scenery as opposed to a building site and the back of another hotel.
