Forge Your Own Path with Egyptian Car Rental

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Our Nile cruise and stay holidays are expertly organised, but we know sometimes the adventurer inside you might want to take-off on a solo day of exploration.
The reputation of much of Africa in terms of car travel and the tourist tends to be rather negative, but in our years of experience a little foresight and good driving skills can help you make the most of your Nile cruise holiday with a day’s safe driving across Egypt’s landscapes.

Who Can Drive?
Anyone with a full U.K driving licence and International Driving Permit (about £6, available from main Post Offices) can rent a car and drive in Egypt. We work with www.holidayautos.co.uk. You’ll also need to carry your passport.

Is It Dangerous?
Cairo is one of the biggest, fastest, most terrifying cities in the world for unfamiliar drivers. Some of the main issues are a) the lack of road markings, b) the local faster-is-better attitude to driving, c) the incessant noise of car horns, and d) driving on the right side of the road. However, once outside the cities, roads are habitually quieter and the driving experience far more serene.

Safety
One of the things we’re serious about on Nile cruises is hydration. Egypt is HOT, making sensible hydration an unfamiliar must to the U.K traveller. NEVER rent a car and drive ANYWHERE without an adequate supply of water, a map and plans left with one of our holiday reps or a family member.

Egypt: A World of Old and New

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Egypt is a country that has long fascinated historians and holidaymakers alike. The nation, which is located on the northern coast of Africa and is bordered by countries including Libya and Sudan, is a highly desired destination among many people in the world.

In ancient times, the civilisation based on this area of land was possibly the most advanced in the world. Its pharaohs led a large and well ordered population and built architectural spectacles such as the pyramids.

Well preserved despite looting and the erosion of wind, sand and time, the monuments still stand tall and attract interest from millions of people.

By heading off on an all inclusive holiday to Egypt, you can see such historical delights for yourself.

And, of course, it is not only the pyramids that you can see during your stay in Egypt. You can also stop off to visit many other sites of interest. For example, the Egyptian Museum houses items discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamen nearly 90 years ago.

But is it not just the old that is of interest if you are on a Nile Cruise. The great thing about this country is the contrast you can see between the new and the ancient. While you may be studying mummified remains one moment, you can be making use of hi-tech scuba diving equipment and other such luxuries the next.

Indeed, the fact that you can experience the historical while at the same time benefiting from modern luxuries while on a river Nile cruise is one of the things that makes such trips so popular.

What is There to Do in the Desert?

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

On the one hand the desert has a pretty bad reputation, and it is a synonym for words like barren and emptiness; however, in reality the desert is much more than this. Around the Nile in particular the desert really comes alive – offering everything from natural beauty to stunning cultural landmarks.

Egypt is unique in that the traces of its ancient history are there for everyone to see. Therefore no nile river cruise would be complete without taking in the stunning landmarks of one of the most sophisticated and significant civilizations that has ever existed. The experience can be much more than aesthetic, and there is even the chance to crawl in an authentic pyramid.

Whilst there are the traces of an ancient culture to be rediscovered, there is also a vibrant contemporary culture in Egypt – and what could be a better way to explore it than with a nile cruise holiday? What could be more exhilarating than spending the day in some of Egypt’s most vibrant markets and bazaars?

Egypt can also be a hugely fulfilling “traditional” holiday, with some of the most remarkable beaches and resorts on the whole planet – and of course, the climate is pretty much impeccable.

In fact, a nile cruise holiday is a distinctly luxury way to holiday. You’ll be bedazzled not only by the stunning Nile and its impeccable surrounds, but also by the Nile cruise ship itself and the 5 star service.

How to Avoid Feeling Unwell on a Nile River Cruise

Monday, August 16th, 2010

There are some people who worry about travelling up the River Nile on a Nile cruise ship, due to the misconception that they are bound to get an upset stomach if travelling abroad.

At RiverNileCruise.com, our Nile cruise ships are renowned for being clean and hygienic, and have been successful at caring for their passengers for many years.

We have listed a few tips and tricks that may put your mind at ease, including some health tips that may be of help before you set off on your journey.

It is essential to wash your hands before each meal, as any germs you may have inadvertently picked up may be transferred to yours or others’ food.

Baby wipes bought from a local drugstore are handy to keep you refreshed and great for wiping your hands after touching hieroglyphs in a tomb or the stones of a pyramid; a quick wipe before disposing of them means you do not have to hunt out a place to wash your hands.

While purchasing your baby wipes, ask the pharmacist about Anitall or Entoseed (similar to Imodium), as these work fast if you happen to feeling queasy.

Other helpful tips are:

• To give yourself time to get used to the heat and the air conditioning in a cabin, especially if you are wet through with perspiration.

• If you have a sensitive stomach or you know that certain foods are not good for you, choose wisely and eat small portions. Only drink bottled water.

Choose a Fabulous Nile Cruise Deal to See the Pyramids of Gaza

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The city of Cairo has earned the Arabic title of Al-Qahirah (The triumphant), with its rich history and many stories being told of ancient dynasties that was once governed by the Pharaohs.

Today however Cairo is a city that attracts tourists from all over the world, many of them will travel on the Nile river cruises stopping to go ashore to see the Pyramids of Gaza.

When walking round the city of Cairo you can not help but appreciate the time and effort the people of Egypt put into building their great monument, there was no modern technology or man made machines to help them out, no wonder it took 20 years before it was completely finished.

According to the information given out to tourists there are approximately 2 million limestone blocks that make up the largest pyramid, it makes you wonder how long it would take to count and verify that number.

Nile cruise ships often stop to let passengers wander around the historical sights of Cairo, visiting the pyramids of course, but their museum should not be left out, inside is the largest collection of Egyptian artefacts in the world.

It is interesting to note that the city of Cairo observes GMT and is ahead by 2 hours, other fun things to know is the legal drinking age for adults is 21 years and Sundays are the one day they take a day off.

At River Nile Cruises we are able to provide Nile Cruise holidays which include a visit to the city of Cairo.
